OnwardTicket, OneWayFly or ExitPass: which reservation fits your trip?

Before comparing onward-ticket services, check what you have been asked to provide. A temporary flight reservation can show a planned itinerary. An issued flight ticket is a different product. If your airline or the relevant authority requires an issued ticket, choosing between reservation services does not resolve that requirement.

Once you know that a reservation fits your purpose, compare the document, its active period, the activation process and what happens if your plans change. Those details can matter more than a small difference in price.

Start with the document, not the supplier

Ask the organization requesting proof a precise question: does it require a reservation, or an issued ticket with an e-ticket number? The word “confirmed” on its own may not settle that distinction.

A reservation reference identifies a record in a booking system. It does not by itself establish that transport has been paid for and ticketed. This is particularly important if you are comparing a temporary reservation with a refundable flight. A refundable flight involves buying transport and later using the applicable cancellation policy. Match the active period to the document check

There are three separate times to write down:

1. When you will create or activate the reservation.
2. When the organization may check it.
3. When the flight shown on the itinerary is scheduled to depart.

The third date is not the reservation’s expiry date. An itinerary showing a flight next month can still be attached to a reservation that expires much earlier.

For illustration, imagine that a reservation is created at 10:00 UTC on Monday and has a stated expiry at 10:00 UTC on Wednesday. A check at 12:00 UTC on Wednesday falls outside that window. Moving between time zones does not create extra validity. This is an example of how to compare timestamps, not a promise about any particular provider’s order.

If you are traveling with a long connection, work from the latest likely document check, not just the first flight’s departure. For a visa file, do not assume that the appointment time is the only moment when a reservation might be reviewed. Follow the consular instructions for your application.

Understand delayed activation and changes

Delayed activation can be useful when the trip is some time away, but read the mechanics. Does payment immediately create the booking? Do you receive an activation link? Can the itinerary date change when you activate late? Who must take the next action?

OneWayFly’s FAQ gives a concrete example of why this matters: its receive-later option has a condition involving activation at least ten days before the requested departure date, and describes a date adjustment if activation is later. The same FAQ says customers cannot choose the airline, modify a completed order or extend its validity. If you need a specific airline, a multi-stop itinerary or a document that stays active for an unusually long period, resolve that requirement before purchasing. Do not infer that every reservation service supports it because a competitor does.

Compare the total cost for your actual party

A headline “from” price is not a group quote. Select the same number of travelers, itinerary type, activation choice and currency on each site. Read the total before payment and note any optional extras you selected.
